Nixing the claim of a purchaser of an Arizona home in which a contractor found a $500,000 cash stash hidden in the walls, as well as the contractor’s bid to keep the bucks, a state appellate court has given the money to the heirs of the then-owner who hid it.

The daughters of Robert A. Spann are entitled to the money, the Arizona Court of Appeals ruled Thursday, as the Arizona Daily Star and the Associated Press report.

Because the money was lost, rather than abandoned, it belonged to Spann’s estate, the unanimous decision explained.
