Arnold & Porter offers buyouts to all secretaries
Addressing a changing legal market in which technology makes it easier for attorneys to do more with less staff support, Arnold & Porter has offered voluntary resignation packages to its entire secretarial staff.
“All law firms are constantly analyzing and evaluating changes in the way we provide support services to both our internal and external clients,” managing partner Richard M. Alexander told Law 360 (sub. req.) last week.
Computerization of legal documents and the writing process has reduced the need for secretarial services, Alexander noted, and Arnold & Porter, like a number of other major law firms, is looking to streamline. It signed a lease last year to occupy new offices in Washington, D.C., in 2015, as a CoStar Group article details.
“Moving to a new building, we need to run an efficient law firm in the current age,” Alexander told Law 360. “This team-based approach will allow us to provide effective service to our clients.”
