Arrest Made in a 17-Years-Long ID Theft
A Los Angeles man has been charged with 81 counts of identity theft and fraud for allegedly committing a number of crimes under an assumed name over a 17-year period.
Prosecutors have accused Yorck A. Rogge of stealing the identity of Salt Lake City locksmith David B. Dahlstrom, who says his problems began after he lost his wallet in 1985.
“Me and my wife have been stressed,” Dahlstrom told the New York Times. “My credit has gone downhill. I cannot believe it happened to me.”
Los Angeles city attorney Rocky Delgadillo told the newspaper the case is extraordinary for the duration of the fraud and the number of crimes committed. The investigation began after Rogge’s girlfriend revealed his real name to a parole officer.
