Arrested Florida teen helps save life of officer booking him into jail; see the video
A Florida teen is being honored for helping save the life of a police officer who was booking him into jail.
Jamal Rutledge, 17, will be honored on Jan. 21 for helping save the life of Officer Franklin Foulks, who collapsed off his chair on Sept. 10 as he was processing the paperwork, report the Sun-Sentinel, NBC Miami, WTSP and the Raw Story.
Rutledge responded by kicking the security fence and yelling for help. Officers who arrived performed CPR and used a defibrillator on Foulks, who was transported to the hospital. A video from the incident can be seen here. The responding officers will also be honored on Jan. 21.
Foulks is now doing light duty work and is expected to return to full duty at the end of this month, according to Detective DeAnna Greenlaw, who spoke with the Sun-Sentinel.
Greenlaw told the Sun-Sentinel that the incident occurred as Rutledge was being booked for a probation violation on charges that include burglary. NBC identifies the other charge as criminal mischief.
Rutledge has been arrested “multiple times” since then, Greenlaw said. The Sun-Sentinel was unable to obtain details because Rutledge is a juvenile.
