A federal judge arguably added to attorney Eric Deters’ troubles today by criticizing his “ready, fire, aim” approach to litigation and requiring him to get an independent lawyer, selected by Deters and OK’d by the court, to review his law firm operations.

But Deters, a flamboyant trial lawyer and radio personality who is facing possible state bar disciplinary action, chose to walk on the sunny side of the street, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported.

“I’d like to put this in perspective,” he said. “I was not told that I or (a) loved one has cancer today. I did not lose a child today. I did not lose my good health today. I still have a great law practice, a great radio show and plenty of business interests. I will not lose any clients today. In fact, I will gain clients based upon my courage of standing up for my cause.”

Under U.S. District Judge Danny Reeves’ ruling, Deters must adopt any recommendations made in the independent review of his law firm and attend 20 hours of continuing legal education. If he doesn’t do so, Reeves will award costs to the defendants in the case filed by Deters.

They are Kentucky Supreme Court Chief Justice John Minton Jr. and the state bar association, which reportedly spent about $23,000 to defend themselves in the action. It has been withdrawn by Deters although his battle with Kentucky attorney authorities continues.
