Hulett “Bucky” Askew, the ABA’s former consultant on legal education, has been elected to the board of trustees of the National Conference of Bar Examiners.

Askew’s election was announced in a press release (PDF) on Thursday by the NCBE, which develops the tests that are used as part of the bar examination in virtually every U.S. jurisdiction.

Askew, 70, left the ABA last month after six years as its legal education consultant. Prior to that, the Atlanta native was director of the office of bar admissions for the Supreme Court of Georgia and served as executive director of the chief justice’s commission on professionalism.

The NCBE, a Madison, Wis.-based nonprofit corporation, has developed many tests, including the Multistate Bar Examination. It also conducts background investigations of bar applicants and provides educational programming and other services to bar admission authorities.
