An associate claims in a lawsuit that British-based law firm Allen & Overy fired him for religious reasons.

Norman Schoenfeld claims he was fired for observing the Jewish sabbath and religious holidays. His suit, filed in Manhattan federal court, alleges partner Mark Wojciechowski swore at him when he left one Friday and asked him to respond to e-mails on Saturday morning, the New York Law Journal reports in a story reprinted by New York Lawyer.

The law firm said in a statement that Schoenfeld was fired for performance reasons. It also claimed the associate failed to disclose on his resume that he worked at another New York law firm for only 32 days.
