Associate Who Sued Firm for Gay Bias Moves to Clifford Chance

An associate who sued his law firm and won a settlement for gay bias has landed new employment.

Aaron Charney will be working at Clifford Chance in New York as a fifth-year mergers and acquisitions associate, the New York Law Journal reports. A spokesman confirmed the hire and said Charney had a “terrific reputation.”

Charney’s suit against Sullivan & Cromwell alleged the firm discriminated against him based on his sexual orientation and retaliated when he filed an internal complaint.

Charney had claimed partners at Sullivan & Cromwell had complained he was too close to another male associate and one lawyer at the firm accused him of an “unnatural” relationship. He also accused one partner at the firm of tossing a document on the floor and asking him to bend over and pick it up.
