An investigation into a “culture of misconduct” by Atlanta police has led to scrutiny of some criminal drug cases, the New York Times reports.

Court documents claim police lied to obtain search warrants and falsified evidence of drug purchases. Two officers have pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and conspiracy to violate civil rights for planting drugs in the home of an elderly woman killed in a drug raid.

In Chicago, civil rights groups recently released a report saying an investigation into police torture there was a whitewash, the Chicago Tribune reports.

The probe of torture in the 1970s and 1980s was “calculated to obfuscate the truth about the torture scandal,” the report said.
