In a move intended to direct more clients to Avvo lawyers, the company announced Thursday at its Lawyernomics conference that it is offering free legal forms over the Internet.

Initially, the free Avvo Legal Forms library will offer only 20 documents. However, by the end of the year the company expects its “selection of no-cost, high-quality legal forms for family, business, estate planning and real estate” to include 200 forms, Robert Ambrogi’s LawSites reports.

Although a potential client isn’t required to purchase legal services to make use of the forms library, the company anticipates that many individuals will naturally transition from working on a form to seeking help from an attorney at Avvo Legal Services, which charges flat rates starting at $99, and Avvo Advisor, which offers phone consultations for a minimum of $39.

“Forty-two percent of consumers who try to handle their own legal affairs end up consulting an attorney for a solution to their legal problem. Avvo gives form creators the ability to seamlessly move from drafting and receiving a form directly, to scheduling a document review with a lawyer,” the company says in a news release announcing the free forms.
