After years of alleged bad behavior that allegedly includes a history of biting, a "vicious" dog has been banned from Aspen, Colo., by a municipal court judge.
Gizmo, who is reportedly a Pomeranian, will be seized by animal control officers and euthanized if he returns to the resort town, Judge Brooke Peterson told his owner, Melinda Goldrich, at a hearing earlier this week. Goldrich had admittedly violated an earlier court order by leaving the dog unattended in public, reports the Aspen Times.
Although he was on a leash at the time and tied to a fence, the toy dog is accused of biting a passerby who tried to calm him, the newspaper recounts. She did not seek medical attention.
“As a judge, the hardest decision I ever have to make is to take someone's pet away or euthanize it,” Peterson told Goldrich at Wednesday's hearing. “But you and I have been dealing with your dog since 2006 ... and your excuses have worn out my patience.”
Goldrich admitted she erred by leaving Gizmo unattended for what she expected to be only a few minutes and has found another home for him.

But wait. The dog is not making the decision on whether to be in or outside Aspen. Would it not be more fair to seize and kill the owner if the court’s order is violated?

Surely the owner is to blame not the poor dog.I put it down to bad ownership and control.Punish the owner not Gizmo.

Leaving this dog unattended was a big mistake. What if someone got him wet or fed him after midnight?
