Bail was set at $2 million on Tuesday for a Washington state man accused of driving to a Pierce County mental hospital with his girlfriend’s body in his car and telling staff that he had killed the woman, as he sought help for himself there.

Staff of Western State Hospital checked that there was indeed a body in the car that Atilla Richards, 29, allegedly drove to the facility before calling authorities, reports the Seattle Times. Though the hospital is located in a suburb of Tacoma, the case was turned over to Seattle police when investigators determined that Biftu Dadi, 24, was slain in Seattle.

The article doesn’t include any comment by Richards or his legal counsel. However, an affidavit filed in the King County case by Seattle police suggests that Richards may be claiming self-defense.
