Bruce Brown, a Baker Hostetler media law partner, was tapped to lead the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, the organization announced in a press release.

Brown, who is a former Legal Times reporter, starts the executive director job in September, The BLT: The Blog of Legal Times reports. He will remain of counsel with the firm.

Brown also serves as co-director at the University of Virginia School of Law’s First Amendment Clinic, according to the BLT. Recently, Brown defended Washington City Paper reporter Dave McKenna, who was sued for libel by Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder. The lawsuit, which sought $1 million in general damages and unspecified punitive damages, was dropped in 2011, the Washington Post reported at the time.
