The Long Goodbye: Baker & McKenzie Bids Final Adieu to 11 Would-Be Associates in Class of '09

It’s official: Baker & McKenzie has told 11 would-be New York associates from the Class of 2009 that it still doesn’t have enough work to justify hiring them so they will have to look for jobs elsewhere.

“We regret having to make this decision,” the megafirm tells Above the Law, “but unfortunately the work required for these individuals has not materialized to a sufficient degree.”

Others were more fortunate: “At this time, more than 30 new associates from the 2009 class whose start dates were deferred are now working in our North American offices, while seven are on client secondments,” the firm says.
