Adding to its westward expansion in recent years, Philadelphia-based Ballard Spahr has opened a new office in San Diego with a five-lawyer team from La Bella & McNamara.

Led by Thomas McNamara, a former federal prosecutor, it will bring the nearly 500-attorney firm’s litigator head count to 200, reports the Philadelphia Inquirer. After establishing a Phoenix office in 2006, the firm also opened its doors in Southern California and Atlanta.

“They have cases all over the country,” says partner Ron Sarachan, who chairs the white-collar defense practice group at Ballard Spahr, of the McNamara group. “But it is also a very nice match for us because we have offices in Las Vegas and Salt Lake and Denver and L.A. It will make us more competitive on matters out there.”

A law firm press release provides additional details.
