Banned from Russia, Baker & McKenzie lawyer finds new landing spot in London
Refused entry to Russia when he tried to return to his Baker & McKenzie office there in May after a business trip, a senior counsel has found a new landing spot.
After a stint in the megafirm’s Washington, D.C., office, Tom Firestone has transferred to its London office, Legal Week reports. Prior to joining Baker & McKenzie, he worked as a federal prosecutor in New York and as a resident legal adviser for the U.S. Embassy in Moscow.
“I couldn’t be happier; being in London is really the perfect fit for my practice,” Firestone says. “We are between the U.S., where a lot of the enforcement comes from, and a number of high-risk jurisdictions, and the office here has great capacity.”
Neither Firestone nor the law firm was told why he was banned from Russia, the legal publication says.
