Opening a new office for the second time in two weeks, Barnes & Thornburg is setting up shop in Columbus, Ohio, with the help of a longtime labor and employment lawyer there.

William Nolan, who was formerly a partner in the Columbus office of Squire Sanders & Dempsey, is now helping to lead his new firm’s charge into Columbus, according to a Barnes & Thornburg press release. Further growth is now expected there.

Last week, the more than 500-attorney firm opened a new office in Atlanta, its first in the Southeast. It now has a total of nine offices in the Midwest, Atlanta and Washington, D.C.

“We are pleased to welcome someone of Bill’s caliber to Barnes & Thornburg, and we are excited about the opportunity to better serve our clients with our new Ohio office,” says Alan Levin, the firm’s managing partner, in the written statement. “In recent years, we have seen an increased need for labor and employment counseling on a number of issues from our clients who operate in Ohio, as well as those who are based in Ohio.”

Although the firm has no specific targets for additional expansion in Columbus, the office is now expected to grow along with the firm’s clients, a spokesman tells the ABA Journal. The Barnes & Thornburg office in Grand Rapids, Mich., for instance, opened in May 2003 with one lawyer and now has an attorney roster of 22, he notes.
