For the third time this year, Indianapolis law firm Barnes & Thornburg has made an out-of-state acquisition.

This time it’s the 22-attorney Parsinen Law Firm P.A. in Minneapolis. The deal takes effect July 1, according to a news release and the Indianapolis Star.

Already this year, 500-plus attorney Barnes & Thornburg has expanded into Atlanta and Columbus, Ohio. The Parsinen acquisition will bring the firm’s total offices to 10.

“Even before the economy went south, we gave a great deal of thought as to what we wanted to accomplish,” Barnes & Thornburg Managing Partner Alan A. Levin tells the Star. “We wanted to broaden our footprint.”

In its news release, the law firm boasts that while other firms have had to cut staff or defer start dates, it has no such plans.

“The marketplace is rewarding us for our value-focused strategy and we have identified a number of markets that provide attractive expansion opportunities based on the growing needs of our clients,” Levin said. “Similar to our approach in Atlanta, we view Minneapolis as a key business hub for our clients. We see a significant opportunity to reach out to existing Parsinen clients to further grow the firm’s already leading intellectual property presence in the Midwest, while also expanding a number of our other core practices.”
