Do you practice law and play a musical instrument as well? The American Bar Association might have a deal for you. This year, the organization is sponsoring a battle of the lawyer bands; to qualify, groups must have a majority of attorney members. A gig playing the President’s Reception at the 2012 annual meeting in Chicago will be awarded to three lucky winners. There are cash prizes as well. First place takes $5,000, second place gets $2,500 and third place comes with $1,000.

Contestants must submit an information form (PDF) and a video performance via YouTube. The deadline to apply is Friday, March 9, at 5 p.m. Central Standard Time. A lawyer panel will review the initial submissions, selecting five finalists. Videos from the final five will be posted at the ABA’s Battle of the Bands <a href=”http://www.americanbar.org/calendar/annual/battle_of_the_lawyer_bands_contest.html” title=Web page”>Web page. The three bands with the most votes—from members and nonmembers—win.
