Bingham Partner Saves Dodgers Fan, Readies for Team Owner’s Divorce Battle
Bingham McCutchen partner Marshall Grossman saved the life of a Dodgers fan over the weekend, and now he will try a rescue of a different sort as he readies for a divorce battle between team owner Frank McCourt and his wife, Jamie.
The outcome of the case, set for trial Aug. 30 in Los Angeles, will determine ownership of the baseball team, according to the Am Law Daily and the Los Angeles Times. At issue is the validity of an agreement that says Frank McCourt is sole owner of the Dodgers. Grossman represents the team, while an all-star lineup of lawyers that includes Stephen Susman of Susman Godfrey will be representing McCourt.
Grossman displayed some team spirit Sunday when he went to the aid of a fan who was choking on some food. The setting was the Dugout Club at Dodger Stadium.
“The gentleman was choking and I went to his table and administered the Heimlich maneuver,” Grossman tells the ABA Journal in an e-mail. “Fortunately, the food was dislodged.”
It’s the second time Grossman has used the Heimlich technique to save a choking victim. “The first time was in the restaurant of the World Trade Center several years ago,” Grossman says. “The food was dislodged at that time also.”
After the latest rescue, the grateful Dodgers fan walked over to Grossman’s table to thank him. “I then had a light moment with him and said that the next time he has a medical emergency, he should call a lawyer,” Grossman reports.
