Three years ago, Blank Rome established a foothold in the hot Houston market by hiring Joseph F. Speelman as a partner. He initially worked out of his home, but then the Philadelphia-based law firm acquired Abrams Scott & Bickley, a 10-attorney firm known for its litigation work.

Now the attorney roster is nearly doubling with the addition of a maritime and energy law firm, Bell Ryniker & Letourneau. Three of the firm’s lawyers joined Blank Rome on Thursday as partners, along with two counsels and three associates, reports the Philadelphia Business Journal. That boosts the total attorney headcount in Houston to 19, according to the firm’s website.

This is the third maritime firm the 500-attorney Blank Rome has acquired in the past decade, the article notes. The firm says in a press release that its maritime practice is the largest in the U.S.

Earlier this week, the firm announced it would be closing its Hong Kong office and consolidating its Asian operations in Shanghai.
