Bloomberg BNA has launched a new website dedicated to covering important issues and news relating to the business of law.

Bloomberg BNA’s Big Law Business site, which went live on Thursday morning, will focus on the Am Law 200 law firms and the companies that they represent. The site, which Bloomberg BNA describes as an online community for law firm leaders and in-house counsel, will be run by a full-time editorial team that will break news and generate content designed to help firms stay on top of the latest trends in law firm management, technology and finance. The site will also consist of content from law firm executives, general counsel, recruiters, consultants and other thought leaders in the legal industry in the form of white papers, video interviews, blogs and podcasts.

Scott Mozarsky, president of cross platform business at Bloomberg BNA, says that he hopes Big Law Business will add value while allowing law firms to function more efficiently. He says that, in speaking with various lawyers during the planning phase for the site, many of them wanted to see more coverage of issues relevant to corporate counsel and in-house attorneys. “Law firms care an awful lot about what their customers care about,” says Mozarsky, who joined Bloomberg BNA approximately one year ago from UBM Tech. “What we heard is that, lawyers want more insight into what issues corporate counsel are dealing with. Given how in-house budgets are shrinking, lawyers want real-time visibility into how those budgets are being built.” Mozarsky also says that the site will focus on technology, with more emphasis on legal issues surrounding the influx of mobile devices into law firms and companies, as well as cybersecurity.

Meanwhile, he hopes the site will be known for more than its editorial content. Indeed, Bloomberg BNA sees the site as an online community that will facilitate interactions between law firm executives, in-house counsel and thought leaders in the legal industry. “We plan to encourage peer-to-peer engagement between community members that will be moderated,” says Mozarsky. “We have to make sure that people are qualified to comment on the site. They have to be working for an Am Law 200 firm, an in-house attorney, or a legal services provider, and the content has to be useful, interesting and valuable and not just a bunch of garbage.”

The bulk of the content on the site will be free, with premium content available to subscribers. According to Mozarsky, the site will also generate revenue by having a sponsored content box on the front page that will give companies and firms the opportunity to provide white papers, videos, Tweets and articles. “We also plan to generate revenue by holding live events, webinars and online universities,” says Mozarsky. The editorial team will be led by Casey Sullivan, senior editorial director at Bloomberg BNA. The site will also have a heavy emphasis on multimedia, which will be produced by Bloomberg BNA’s executive multimedia producer Josh Block.
