A Boston-area lawyer with 25 years of experiencing defending personal injury lawsuits spent a year looking for jobs since he was laid off last year. He has finally landed new employment—as a furniture salesman.

Paul Semenza told the Boston Globe he enjoys working with customers, but he misses his old job. “It’s very frustrating not being able to do something that I enjoyed for so long,” he told the newspaper. “I really miss the law.”

The story reports that several Boston law firms have cut jobs, including Goodwin Procter; Goulston & Storrs; Choate, Hall & Stewart; and Foley Hoag. The newspaper talked to two other lawyers, both laid off in January. One is a litigation lawyer from Foley Hoag who fears the market is saturated. The other is an intellectual property litigator who was laid off from Bromberg & Sunstein.

The IP lawyer, Paul Kitchin, said he can survive even if it takes him months to find a job. “ I don’t have to be desperate,” he told the Globe.

Semenza has been looking for a legal job for a year, but he hasn’t given up. The story says he “constantly chats people up to see if they have connections that might lead to an opportunity,” but so far he has had no luck.
