The 11th-largest law firm in Sacramento will catapult to the No. 4 spot on the list as of Sept. 1, when it plans to add 17 lawyers from McDonough Holland & Allen, which has been the second-largest law firm in the California city but is rapidly losing lawyers and plans to dissolve.

Boutin Gibson Di Giusto Hodell presently has 25 lawyers, so the McDonough group will give it a total of 42 attorneys. Eight of the new lawyers will join as partners and seven will be counsel, reports the Sacramento Business Journal.

“We will nearly double in size, but we will quadruple in ability,” says Steve Boutin. “Our firm, with its added expertise and depth, will have the capability of representing clients in virtually all areas of civil law.”

The McDonough firm had 99 lawyers at one point in March but had dropped to 80 or fewer as of June.

The Boutin firm is one of at least four that have been mulling the possibility of adding lawyers from McDonough Allen, but the first to act. Also poised for potential new additions are Best Best & Krieger; Burke, Williams & Sorensen; Hanson Bridgett and Downey Brand.
