A plaintiff seeking state recognition of her same-sex marriage had to contend with angry protesters and a cautious security guard before oral arguments in the U.S. Supreme Court last week.

Kelly Noe tells the Cincinnati Enquirer that, on the eve of oral arguments, she was breastfeeding her 10-month-old daughter on the steps of the Supreme Court when a security guard intervened.

“You are not doing that here,” the security guard reportedly said. According to the Enquirer, Noe “begrudgingly acquiesced.”

Noe is a hospital employee in Cincinnati, according to this prior story by the Associated Press. She married her wife in Massachusetts and lives in Kentucky with her wife. Neither Kentucky nor Ohio recognizes their marriage.
