Brown Rudnick Lawyers Learn of Layoffs in Two Phases

It must have been a harrowing day on Wednesday for associates and staffers at Boston-based Brown Rudnick Berlack Israels.

The law firm laid off 20 lawyers and 23 staffers that day, according to a press release issued by the firm, and everyone knew it was coming, Above the Law reports.

The law firm confirmed the layoffs in the press release after circulating two internal memos, the blog says. The first informed lawyers and staff that some of them would be getting layoff notices throughout the day on Wednesday. The second had the numbers.

The layoffs occurred in all of the firm’s offices except for those in Washington, D.C., and Dublin, the National Law Journal reports.

Having worked at Brown Rudnick many years ago, I find this to be sad news, but it’s a sign of the times.

It is ironic, but I became a lawyer after being laid off after twenty-one years of service with an insurance company that sold my department to another company.  I took the severance pay and went to law school.  Obviously there is no more security in this profession than in my old one.
I wish these guys luck, I truly do feel their pain.
