A 150-attorney Washington, D.C.-based law firm known for its representation of financial services clients is opening a London office.

It is the first international outpost for BuckleySandler, which announced the new office Monday. James T. Parkinson is relocating from D.C. to serve as its partner-in-residence.

“As the enforcement, regulatory and litigation challenges facing our clients globalize, it has become apparent that we need to be in London to enable us to meet our clients’ global needs,” explained Andrew Sandler, who serves as the firm’s chairman and executive partner, in the firm’s press release. “Jamie’s move to London and our evolving strategic partnerships with global law firms with complementary practices are important steps in enabling the firm to assist clients in their global challenges and expand our global financial crimes practice.”

Sandler said BuckleySandler will continue to focus on U.S. law there and will use the new office to develop strategic partnerships with other firms internationally, The Lawyer reports. “We have no interest in mergers but do work closely with several firms,” he told the legal publication, adding: “We’re not going to be seeking to practice U.K. law, we’ll advise on U.S. law. And for other firms who rely on us for that it’s better for them to have us in London.”

The firm also has offices in Chicago, Los Angeles and New York.
