A personal injury firm in Buffalo has drawn the ire of city leaders after a television ad spot there started appearing.

It wasn’t the content of the Cellino & Barnes’ commercial. Instead, city council members are upset over the commercial’s location: Buffalo’s Common Council Chambers.

The chambers is a backdrop for an ad message touting the firm’s “experience and courtroom success,” reports the Buffalo News.

City officials apparently didn’t realize that when they gave permission for a local filmmaker to finish up a forthcoming movie featuring Buffalo, he was going to earn a little extra income filming a commercial at the same location.

The Buffalo News and WGRZ NBC Channel 2 report that council officials have denied repeated requests from other law firms and businesses to film commercials in its chambers.

The firm was asked to pull the ad spot, but has declined, telling the Buffalo News that the commercial cost “tens of thousands of dollars” to produce and was filmed while the city’s building superintendent looked on without objection.

“It’s done very tastefully,” the law firm’s chief operating officer, Daryl Ciambella is quoted as saying of the commercial. “It promotes the city. It puts the city in a very positive light.”
