Bullfighter Bolts From Ring, Is Arrested in Apparent Breach-of-Contract Case

Gored by a bull in a previous match several months ago, Mexican bullfighter Christian Hernandez lost his nerve and bolted from the ring ahead of a charging bull on Sunday, dropping his cape along the way.

The crowd hooted in derision as the 22-year-old sprinted to safety and leapt headlong over the ring’s wall, reports the Associated Press.

But his escape from the charging animal left him vulnerable to legal action.

Hernandez was jailed after the Mexico City match in an apparent breach-of-contract action, the news agency recounts. He was released after he paid a fine.

Hernandez has now announced his retirement as a matador.
