Busted for DWI, college student loses license and car but still has wheels ... a Barbie Jeep
Those who want to stay on the right side of the law after being charged with driving while intoxicated typically walk, bike, take mass transit or arrange to ride with friends.
Tara Monroe, a junior at Texas State University, found another way, the San Antonio Express-News reports.
The petite 20-year-old purchased a pink Barbie Jeep for $60 on Craigslist. She is using the battery-powered toy to get around campus after she was charged with DWI for refusing a breath test and automatically had her driver’s license suspended earlier this year.
Her father took the car back home after the incident, leaving Monroe with a bicycle, but she says the Barbie Jeep is preferable.
“It goes pretty fast when it’s just me,” she told a reporter for the newspaper, which says the vehicle has a top speed of 5 mph.
Although the article doesn’t explain why the Barbie Jeep is legal for a nondriver, it appears that Monroe isn’t riding it on public streets, only private property and sidewalks.
