CA Fires Force Law Firm Evacuations
Some lawyers are feeling the heat from California’s wildfires.
Several law firms in San Diego’s Carmel Valley have temporarily closed their doors, the Recorder reports, while some lawyers lost or were forced from their homes.
State and federal courts in San Diego are also closed. But lawyers are still scrambling to serve clients remotely from other locations, including other law firm offices, homes and hotels.
The Recorder reached Robert Bell, managing partner of Luce, Forward, Hamilton & Scripps, at a Marriott. “It’s pretty unreal down here,” he reported. He and dozens of other firm lawyers have been forced from their homes, he said. But the situation is worse for two lawyers—the chief operating officer and a partner—who lost their homes to the fires.
Other firms that have been ordered to evacuate include Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton; Latham & Watkins; Morrison & Foerster; Cooley Godward Kronish; and Fish & Richardson, the legal newspaper says.
