Calif. Judge Charged in $1.6M Elder Theft Case Remains on Bench, But Now Hears Small Claims Cases
Arrested last week as he was about to take the bench to hear misdemeanor arraignments and charged with a dozen felonies, Paul David Seeman remains a sitting California superior court judge.
However, he has been reassigned to hear small claims cases in Alameda County’s smallest courthouse, the Oakland Tribune reports.
The 57-year-old judge is charged with one count of financial elder abuse and 11 counts of perjury. He is accused of stealing at least $1.6 million of an elderly neighbor’s assets over a 13-year period while holding a durable power of attorney.
