Canadian Lawyer Survives Haiti Quake; House Felt As If 'All Made of Rubber'
A Canadian lawyer who arrived in Haiti on Tuesday for a business meeting survived the devastating earthquake there later that day and has returned safely home to Ottawa.
Stephane Monpremier was in a meeting in a home in a gated community when the disaster struck, shaking the house as if it had been “all made of rubber,” he tells CTV. “The back-and-forth motion was so severe and violent that we were all shocked that the house did not collapse.”
He returned to Canada with the help of contacts of his uncle in Haiti, who helped him get to the Dominican Republic, a neighboring country. From there he flew to the United States and Canada.
