Carlton Fields is merging with 70-lawyer Jorden Burt, a class action defense firm that represents insurers and the financial services industry.

The merger will become final early next year, according to a press release. The new firm will have more than 370 lawyers and government consultants in 10 offices.

The firm will be called Carlton Fields Jorden Burt during a transitional period. According to prior coverage, the merger will give Carlton Fields a presence in Washington, D.C., and Connecticut, the heart of the insurance industry.

Carlton Fields CEO Gary Sasso will lead the combined firm. He says in the press release that there is a “natural and powerful” fit between the two firms. “Both firms have strong national practices in class action defense and high-stakes litigation,” he said. “We see an opportunity to match strength with strength, putting together highly capable professionals who like and respect each other.”
