There won’t be a happy ending to the story of a missing 3-year-old girl in Florida that has captured international attention, DNA testing and a medical examiner’s report have confirmed.

Caylee Anthony is dead, and was murdered, according to medical examiner Dr. Jan Garavaglia of Orange County. DNA testing of skeletal remains found by a utility worker last week confirmed that the body is Caylee Anthony’s, reports the Associated Press.

At a news conference, “Garavaglia said the cause of death was homicide, but she could not determine how Caylee was killed,” reports CNN. There was no tissue present to examine on the skeletonized body, and there was no damage to the bones, the medical examiner stated.

Even before the body was found, Caylee Anthony’s mother, Casey Anthony, 22, was indicted for first-degree murder in October. She has said she left her daughter with a babysitter in June, the month when she disappeared, but didn’t report her missing until July.
