Divorce lawyer Stacy Phillips says she wanted to concentrate on law practice rather than worry about hacking that could compromise the information of her celebrity clients.

That concern is partly why Phillips’ four-lawyer boutique law firm, Phillips Lerner, decided to be acquired by Blank Rome, report Law.com, Bloomberg Big Law Business and the Wall Street Journal Law Blog. A press release is here.

Phillips, who was managing principal at her law firm, has represented Britney Spears and Bobby Brown.

“I wasn’t sleeping at night because I was worried about cybersecurity,” Phillips told Bloomberg. “I wanted to practice law and develop business. Running the business isn’t my interest and isn’t my strength.”

With the Phillips Lerner acquisition, Blank Rome will have 30 lawyers in its matrimonial and family law practice. Phillips joins Blank Rome as a partner while the other name partner at her firm, Marc Lerner, will join as of counsel.

Phillips spoke with five large law firms before deciding to join Blank Rome. She has an office in the same Los Angeles building as Blank Rome, and will get to keep her coveted parking space near the building entrance, Law.com reports.
