Among the people who died in last week’s blizzard was a Chicago lawyer who fell into Lake Michigan and drowned.

Lawyer Peter Davis, 60, was a Harvard law graduate who lived about five blocks from the lake, the Chicago Tribune reports. His legal secretary, Karen Johnson, told the Tribune that Davis’ friends told her he had gone to look at the waves. The incident occurred at the height of the storm when winds were as high as 70 miles an hour. Police suspect Davis may have fallen into the water after becoming disoriented, according to Advertising Age (reg. req.).

Davis began work in-house at the advertising agency now known as DraftFCB in 1995, and later became senior corporate counsel for its parent company, Advertising Age says. DraftFCB chairman Howard Draft told the Tribune that Davis was “scary brilliant.”
