A federal lawmaker from New York and a Big Apple prosecutor jointly called Wednesday for the U.S. to start screening airline workers for weapons on a daily basis.

Currently, passengers, flight attendants and pilots are screened, but many employees who work in secure sections of airports aren’t, under what Sen. Charles Schumer calls a “mind-boggling” loophole in the rules of the Transportation Security Administration, the Associated Press and Syracuse.com report.

The Democratic lawmaker and Brooklyn District Attorney Ken Thompson are calling for the change in TSA policy after news last month of alleged gun-smuggling by current and former Delta Airlines employees. A CNN story provides details about that case.
