Gary Locke, a partner at Davis Wright Tremaine who is nominated to become commerce secretary, made more than $1 million in income in the past year, more than half of it from his law firm salary.

Locke reports in financial disclosure forms that Davis Wright paid him a salary of $533,000, the Associated Press reports. Locke had helped lead the law firm’s China practice, and was the nation’s first Chinese-American governor.

Other income included $101,000 in director's fees from Safeco Insurance Co. and $467,000 from deferred Safeco fees and a stock cashout, the story says.

A Senate panel has approved Locke and forwarded his nomination to the full Senate, Bloomberg reports.
