Chief Judge Now Says Cook County Courts Will Be Closed Wednesday Due to Blizzard
Updated: A blizzard that could dump as much as 2 feet of snow on the Chicago area initially wasn’t going to close the county’s courts.
A press release issued by Chief Judge Timothy Evans said he expected all Cook County courts to be open on Wednesday. However, as the storm progressed he apparently changed his mind: By early Wednesday, a notice on the circuit’s website said the courts would be closed.
“Due to inclement weather, by an order of Chief Judge Timothy Evans, the Circuit Court and the Office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court will be closed on Wednesday, February 2nd,” the notice states.
And as a subsequent ABAJournal.com post details, most Cook County courts will also be closed on Thursday, Feb. 3.
Meanwhile, the federal courthouse in Chicago also will be closed Wednesday, although documents may still be filed electronically, according to the court’s website.
The Illinois Supreme Court and the Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts are also closed.
Last updated Feb. 2 to provide new information from Cook County Circuit Court website that courts will be closed tomorrow.
