Continuing its aggressive expansion into the East Coast legal market, Cooley Godward Kronish, a major San Francisco-based law firm known for its technology expertise, opened a 10-partner office in Boston this week. The firm has also recently marched into New York City and Washington, D.C., establishing sizable offices in both cities during the past two years.

Cooley’s new Boston office reunites 10 lawyers from Testa Hurwitz & Thibeault, which dissolved in 2005. They had moved to other firms in the meantime, but are now together again at Cooley Godward, reports the San Francisco Business Times.

The 600-lawyer Cooley firm already had a number of clients in Boston, and the city’s position as a New England techology center made it a natural site for a new office, reports the Boston Herald. “There’s no doubt that the focus will be on the tech market and the life sciences market,” says Joe Conroy, a Boston partner who is a member of the firm’s executive committee.

Cooley plans to add more lawyers to its Boston office in the near future. It established a New York City office last year by merging with a 110-attorney litigation firm, Kronish Lieb Weiner & Hellman. In 2005, Cooley opened a Washington, D.C., office which now has about 30 lawyers.
