Although new hires at Cooley’s new office in Santa Monica, Calif., will probably spend more time surfing the Internet than the nearby Pacific Ocean, proximity to the waves will be a plus factor in the firm’s search for additional attorneys to fuel an ambitious growth plan there, the Hollywood Reporter predicts.

Jennifer Massey, one of four partners opening the new outpost for the 650-lawyer Silicon Valley-based international tech powerhouse, says Cooley hopes to grow its attorney roster in Santa Monica to 15 or 20 in the next six months and between 50 and 100 in the next year or so. The new office is the firm’s first footstep into the Los Angeles area.

“We’ve been flooded with resumes,” she tells the entertainment industry publication. And, she notes, Cooley’s office is, she believes, the closest major firm location to the beach.
