In an interview earlier this month, a soon-to-be-former Cooley Godward Kronish partner said it had been a difficult decision to jump to Dewey & LeBoeuf’s office in Silicon Valley along with two other high-profile partners.

But now it appears that Cooley’s parting with mergers and acquisitions star Richard Climan was a “long goodbye,” reports the Recorder in an article reprinted in New York Lawyer (reg. req.).

“It did not come as a surprise that Rick is leaving,” firm chairman Stephen Neal tells the legal publication. “Rick has not been happy with things for some time.”

However, “it was somewhat more of a surprise that Keith and Eric were leaving,” he continues, referring to the other two members of the trio departing the well-known Silicon Valley corporate and tech firm. They are Keith Flaum, another M&A star, and Eric Reifschneider, the head of the tech transactions group at Cooley.

Climan tells the Recorder that all three members of the trio were happy at Cooley and rejected numerous offers from competing law firms before being tempted by the platform at Dewey & LeBoeuf.
