A suburban Houston police officer was charged with theft and suspended without pay for 30 days after being identified by a hidden camera as the claimed culprit in a series of food and drink thefts from the employee refrigerator in his police department’s break room.

Officer Kevin Yang began the suspension on Tuesday, KTRK reports. Yang, who police say was caught on film taking several Monster energy drinks and a bag from a local sandwich shop, all marked with initials of detectives in the Deer Park police department, told investigators he was simply helping out by cleaning the refrigerator.

Even if he is convicted in the misdemeanor case, he is not expected to lose his job.
