When alumni make monster gifts to the institutions from which they received their legal degrees, it isn’t unusual to for the money to be used to construct buildings that bear their names.

But a $25 million gift to Cornell Law School that was announced at a Friday alumni lunch came from an anonymous donor and will go to fund faculty research and scholarships, among other general-fund uses, according to Reuters.

Dean Stewart Schwab told the news agency the gift is the largest the law school has ever received.
