The possibility of a brokered convention for the Republican presidential nomination is leading to speculation about a possible nominee.

Could the GOP pick New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie? Another member of the Bush dynasty? The Daily Beast is offering another alternative—U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.

“A Thomas candidacy would energize Republicans in a way that few other Republicans can and would steal tremendous media attention from President Barack Obama,” the Daily Beast says. Thomas is a true conservative with a free-market philosophy and an appealing up-by-the-bootstraps life story. And though he’s silent on the bench, he’s outgoing and charming in public.

The idea of a Thomas presidency was first proposed by Above the Law bloggers Kashmir Hill and David Lat. Above the Law noted the Daily Beast article.
