County Attorney to Be Reprimanded by Texas Bar on 1 of 24 Grievances; 23 Will Be Dismissed
A Texas county attorney who faced 24 grievances after a run-in with the county commissioners and a local judge has settled a Texas State Bar complaint by agreeing to accept a public reprimand on one grievance.
The other 23 grievances against Williamson County Attorney Jana Duty will be dismissed, reports the WillCo Wired blog of the Austin American-Statesman.
The reprimand concerns confidential client information included by Duty in a lawsuit she filed in an attempt to remove County Judge Dan A. Gattis from office. That suit was dismissed early this year.
“I’m very pleased that this is behind me,” said Duty, who also continues in office as county attorney. “In the end, I would have loved to take this final politically motivated grievance all the way to trial, but my personal legal fees alone would have likely exceeded $100,000. Additionally, it would have been an enormous distraction from continuing to do what the people of this county elected me to do—protect our families, save tax dollars and fight the good old boy system at the courthouse.”
