After their 4-year-old daughter choked on a grape at a day care center and died, Justin and Jennifer Kozitza were credited with getting a Minnesota law enacted that requires child-care workers to get CPR training.

Now the two Hannah’s Law champions are facing a felony case, standing accused of illegally obtaining $2,332 in public assistance from Nicollet County Social Services for themselves and a surviving child, the Mankato Free Press reports.

At issue are assets the Kozitzas did not reveal when they applied for benefits, including vehicles with a total value of more than $50,000 and a $960,000 lawsuit settlement they received two years ago. According to the complaint, Jennifer Kozitza told a fraud investigator that she did not know she was supposed to disclose the settlement and additional assets.

The article doesn’t include any comment from the couple, and online court records don’t show that they are represented by a lawyer.
