A partner who practices in the same law firm as attorney general nominee Eric Holder is likely to be named the head of the Justice Department’s criminal division, two publications are reporting.

Lanny Breuer of Covington & Burling is the leading contender for the job, report Newsweek and the Washington Post. He is co-chair of the law firm’s white-collar defense and investigations practice.

A past high-profile client is President Bill Clinton, whom Breuer represented during impeachment proceedings. He also represented baseball star Roger Clemens before a congressional committee probing steroid use.

Breuer has worked as a prosecutor in the office of Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau, but he never was a federal prosecutor, Newsweek says.
