Covington & Burling agreed to represent pitcher Roger Clemens in the congressional inquiry into steroid use by sports figures even though the law firm also has Major League Baseball as a client.
An American Lawyer article quotes an anonymous source who said the law firm did not get advance approval from MLB before taking on Clemens, and the league is annoyed.
Clemens was linked to steroid use in a report prepared by former Sen. George Mitchell that had been commissioned by Major League Baseball. The source told the legal magazine that a meeting is scheduled between representatives of MLB and the law firm.
